Math activity – How can we use fractions to bake delicious ANZAC biscuits?

On the 2nd of May the year 4s stepped out of the classroom and explored the idea of using fractions to bake yummy ANZAC biscuits. We had so much fun mixing and measuring! As a class we discovered that math goes beyond the classroom. To bake our ANZAC biscuits we needed the following:

½ Cup flour
½ Cup desiccated coconut
¾ Cup rolled oats
¼ Cup sugar
50 g butter
1 tablespoon golden syrup
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoon water

We learnt that 2 quarters make a half! Our favourite part was getting our hands in the mixture and of course we couldn’t wait to eat our yummy treats! Would you like to bake ANZAC biscuits?
